PURPOSE:

1. Consider how the Executive Team could be more effective.
2. Clarify roles, goals and relationships.
3. Come to agreement on both WHAT the team should be doing and HOW it
   should go about doing it.

PROCESS:

1. Contract with the CEO around his/her expectations for the process and
   commitment to it.
2. Conduct confidential one-to-one interviews with each of the team members.
3. Distribute a confidential questionnaire to all participants to generate
   quantifiable data.
4. Prepare a report that summarizes themes from the interviews and/or collates
   the data from the questionnaire. This becomes the team's data to itself from
   itself on itself and is presented to all at the same time at the retreat.
5. Conduct a facilitated retreat to:
a. Agree on the basic nature, purpose and work of this executive team.
b. Consider HOW the team wants to work together more effectively.
   Clarify roles and relationships.
c. Consider WHAT priorities they want to focus on this year.
   Prioritize goals.
d. Make commitments to each other and to the prioritized work with
   specific measurements and follow-up actions.

PRECONDITIONS FOR SUCCESS:

All members must be committed to the process and open to changing their own behaviors in order to achieve greater effectiveness for the team.

The process must be safe for all team members. Confidentiality of the data and at the meetings is crucial. Only team members should be present. All team members must be present.
